We welcome today's report from the Health Research Board re the rise in alcohol abuse and use of cocaine in Ireland which aligns with the findings from our own 2023 Annual Report, released last week. The Health Research Board conducts invaluable work in documenting and addressing these critical issues. It is encouraging to see that The Rutland Centre’s data reflects a national trend, reaffirming the critical need for comprehensive addiction treatment and support services across Ireland.

The Rutland Centre remains committed to addressing these challenges through our existing programmes and planned services to better support those in need. We also call on Minister of State Colm Burke with responsibility for Public Health, Wellbeing and the National Drugs Strategy to consider additional resourcing for treatment and recovery services beyond the planned anti-alcohol and advertising initiatives to ensure a holistic and fulsome approach to combating alcohol addiction.
